Signature of a strategic partnership between ANR and Bpifrance

ANR and Bpifrance signed a strategic partnership in the presence of Frédérique Vidal, the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. Its goals are to strengthen support for innovative projects and accelerate technology and knowledge transfer.

Pierre Corvol appointed CPS chair
The President of the French Academy of Sciences, Pierre Corvol, was appointed to chair the new ANR Scientific Advisory Panel, a discussion forum made up of the heads of the Agency’s scientific departments and external contributors chosen for their scientific and technical expertise.

Women in science honoured

Marking International Women’s Day, ANR published video portraits of three scientific coordinators. The goal of these presentations was to promote the role of women in science and encourage young people to enter the sciences, technology or engineering, fields where women are under-represented.

New website

The anr.fr website was redesigned to provide better access to information and optimised viewing on tablets and mobile phones. A monthly newsletter was also launched to keep subscribers up to date with the latest calls for proposals: https://anr.fr/fr/newsletter/
Launch of four 3IAs

Following a call for expressions of interest issued in 2018, four Interdisciplinary Institutes of Artifi cial Intelligence (3IA) received approval in Nice, Grenoble, Paris and Toulouse. Two new calls for proposals were also opened, one for individual AI chairs and the other for doctoral programmes.

Renewed cooperation between ANR and AID

ANR and the French Defence Innovation Agency (AID) signed a four-year cooperation agreement. Its goal is to ensure the continuation of joint programmes such as ASTRID and ASTRID Maturation and joint funding for new projects targeting dual civilian and military research.

Cooperation agreement with Normandy’s regional council
ANR and the Normandy regional council signed a three-year cooperation agreement to improve the coordination between their respective funding tools and identify strategic scientific fields in Normandy in the coming years.

Science day on endocrine disruptors
Anses and ANR organised an event devoted to research work on endocrine disruptors. This was an opportunity to review the scientific priorities in the 2019-2022 national endocrine disruptors strategy (SNPE2).
Research and Creation Meetings in Avignon

As part of the Thought Workshops at the Avignon Festival, ANR organised the sixth edition of the Research and Creation Meetings and a forum on cultural intelligence in partnership with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), which was celebrating its 80th anniversary. Artists and researchers explored the links between scientific research, creation and society.

ANR Tour 2020: a month of meetings with research stakeholders

Between 4 September and 4 October, the ANR Tour invited scientific communities to 31 meetings organised throughout France and in the overseas territories. Over 3,000 participants attended the sessions, discovering the 2019 Work Programme and the calls for proposals designed to meet the research needs of scientific communities.
Implementation of a Data Management Plan
In line with its open science policy, ANR now requires the coordinators of all projects funded to produce a Data Management Plan (DMP). This document sets out how research data will be collected, stored, protected or retained to encourage data sharing, reuse and archiving.

Launch of the French-German Make Our Planet Great Again programme

The French-German Make Our Planet Great Again programme (MOPGA) was launched at a conference at the Musée du Quai Branly at the invitation of Frédérique Vidal, the Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and Anja Karliczek, the German Minister for Education and Research. The staff of the 55 selected projects presented their research and their propositions for fighting global warming.
International Sargassum conference

Organised by the Guadeloupe government and the French state, the first international sargassum conference brought together heads of state, regional leaders and international researchers, companies and members of civil society. A review of current knowledge was prepared in order to clarify international priorities and the strategies to adopt in response to massive beachings of seaweed on coasts around the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. The winners of the Sargassum call for projects were also announced.

Publication of the ANR evaluation report by HCERES

France’s High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) published the report on its evaluation of ANR. It underlined the Agency’s strengths and formulated recommendations for its strategy and activities in the coming years.

IDEFI conference

The results and prospects of the 36 Excellence initiatives in Innovative Education (IDEFI) selected in 2012 as part of the Investments for the Future programme (PIA) were presented at a three-day conference organised by ANR in Paris.
Innovation Through Research day

The first event devoted to partnership-based research and innovation, this day, organised by ANR, based on round-table discussions, networking spaces and presentations of experience, invited economic, scientific and institutional stakeholders to engage in new collaborations and discover the Agency's funding solutions.
French-German call for projects on antimicrobial resistance
ANR and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched a second joint call for proposals on antimicrobial resistance. The call has two goals: developing research into antimicrobial resistance in environmental reservoirs and into antibioticresistant bacteria colonising humans, farm animals, pets and food products.
