CEMPI

European Center for Math, Physics and their Interaction

avenir

Since 2012, the CEMPI has stood out for its broad spectrum of expertise across pure and applied mathematics, atomic physics, optics and fibreoptic technology research. The emphasis is on the interactions between mathematics and physics, as well as with computing and biology. The FiberTech optical fibre production plant, a remarkable European-scale facility supported by the FLUX Equipex, is a key element for basic research, technology transfer and CEMPI’s industrial partnerships.

The CEMPI has made several notable advances in fundamental mathematics and the complex dynamics of optics and atomic physics. The Graduate School provides a balance between research and teaching, with a successful attractiveness programme : 80 % of post-doctoral students who have passed through the Graduate School have secured permanent posts in the academic world.

Thanks to the collaboration between CEMPI’s mathematicians and physicists, with support from the ERC Consolidator “ Emergent Topology in Photon Fluids ” project, promising prospects are being created in the application of topological concepts to the study of new states of light.
